Amendments in Question~Part Two
May 11, 2008
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
That is the true form of the First Amendment. Basically it all means as it plainly says that Congress may not create any laws under any circumstances that opposes the freedoms of speech; religion; assemble; press; or peitition. Today people wish to censor others for expressing their thoughts and opinions, but they can’t. They are breaking one of the most important amendments in the Constitution. This is bigger than women and races having the right to vote. This is the life style of America that across the globe many dream of and wish to be here for. Our Four Fathers intended for us to speak our mind freely without hindrance. Now I agree there is a time and place for everything. There is always one thing I believe that should always kept in the dark and that is hate speech towards races, and religions. There is no room for that and I don’t care who you think you are if you are racist or otherwise we are all equal under God’s eyes. So… HA! I stated the obvious I know, but apparently it is not clear enough with some. I understand that we all have our different thoughts, but there is a time and place for everything.
Speaking of religions, we have a freedom in that too. So… take for instance me I am partially Catholic my Freshmen year of high school wasn’t the best thing in the whole world. Two girls literally followed me around and gave me a hard time because I carried my rosary with me. I haven’t dared brought it back because of them. They would ask me the same question every day and I had no right to answer such a question because that is not my job. It is God’s. I leave it to him. But the question was “Do lesbians go to hell?” I told them I have no idea. I had to go through that for several months. Many days I was in tears because of this harassment. I never really ever told anyone aside to my friends of what I was. I kept it hidden. Also many of my friends are a different religion other than Christianity and I never give them a hard time. I honestly don’t care and neither should anyone else. Just respect and embrace your friend’s differences.
A lot of things within the First Amendment go hand and hand. Honestly people use your freedom here like I am and speak out. You don’t want something passing in your state then express your opinions to your state legislature and let your thoughts be known. I’m encouraging you to take advantage of your rights. ^^; I’m trying to… I hope I am succeeding.
